The new roof was one of the first things we did. We hired the roof done by a construction company. The roofing originally was wood shingle covered with asphalt shingles over the years. We had it torn down to the roof and then put 50 year dimentional shingles on. They are made to be random and the color is weathered cedar. Many people think it is real cedar. It really looks good. At the time we put the new roof on, these shingles weren't readily available. We had to order them. And most crews had not installed these type of shingles.
Over the years, we have had some wind damage twice with some shingles being blown off in 2 spots. We found the shingles had not been installed correctly. We don't know if it was only in those areas or on the whole roof. So far we haven't had any more damage in the last few years.
We were able to get the same shingles for the porch when it was built.
