In 2003 as tenants left, we started working on the inside of the house. When 1st floor was empty, we tore the plaster off the wall that was shared between the first floor room. We removed the plaster and lath and disposed of it. Then I hired Handyman Services to remove the wall and install a beam. This was done in April of 2004.
John and I drywalled around the beam and into each room corner where the plaster and lath was removed.
David Russell, a son of friends, finished the drywall for us and worked the ceiling like the old so it looked the same.
This opened up 2 small rooms into one that will be used for a dining room. It also allows us to move from one side of the house to the other without going to the front of the house to use the doors. Now it is opened as one house rather than as 2 separate houses.
We still had one apartment occupied on 2nd floor.
