The dining room where the wall was removed and a beam installed has no flooring where the wall was removed. This is about a 6 inch gap between the rooms floors and only subfloor.
We held the first family reunion at this point and just put rugs over the uneven portion of the floor.
John and I had salvaged flooring from a house that matched our flooring. We had it stored at our daughter's garage. We used that salvaged flooring to fill the gap where we had removed the wall. Most of it was not hard to replace. John did a great job getting it to fit and tightly nailed. The hard part was the last strip because it wasn't a full width and it wasn't straight. So we cut, sanded and made it fit tight. It had to be surface nailed. It looks great. After the floors were refinished, no one can even pick out what was not there originally.
