Since the house had metal siding on the outside, we had to insulate walls from the inside.
Over time, as each apartment was emptied and I was going to repaint, I had Craig Burbach insulate the apartment. He drilled about 2 inch holes in the walls between studs and blew in insulation. Then I would fill the holes, sand, prime and paint. Over a number of years, we had the whole house insulated.
Then in the end, I had 50 R value more put in the attic, blown in on the existing floor. There was some existing insulation between the attic floor and the ceiling, but it was old and not that thick.
He also went around the perimeter of the house and filled any holes in the foundation and where the sill meets the foundation.
He also removed the wood siding around the front door and blew in insulation from the outside there and replaced the wood siding.
