Nebraska destinations do their part to become 'earth friendly'

Visit Nebraska has released information on how destinations in Nebraska have adopted 'green' as a way of life. Here are a few destinations from their news release.
Scotts Bluff National Monument - walk the trails, explore nature and leave the vehicles behind.
Homestead National Monument near Beatrice- focuses on resource conservation
Arbor Day Farm and Lied Lodge and Converence Center in Nebraska City - every dollar spent at this destination goes toward the Arbor Day Foundation's tree planting mission.
Lincoln's International Quilt Study Center and Museum - will soon be a certified green building.
Big Blue Ranch and Lodge in Burchard - is a working cattle ranch with a focus on sustainability.
Omaha's River City Roundup - the dirt from the rodeo arena and the shavings and fertilizer from the livestock show will be recycled.
Rail Fest 2008 in North Platte - will be a zero waste event.
Nebraska Renewable Energy, a vendor at the Nebraska State Fair - aims to help the fair be greener by colecting all the used grease from the fair concessions and turning it into bio-diesel fuel used in Nebraska.
Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center in rural Denton - protects more than 800 acres of Nebraska's native tall grass prairie.
Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Green Project are building new cabins in Ponca State Park using recycled materials.

John and Peggy have been married 46 years. John semi retired January 2007 and is fully retired in the summer of 2008. Peggy works full time at the University of Nebraska. We have 2 children Robert and Leeza. We also have 8 grandchildren. All live in Lincoln and we enjoy having them close. The Hawley Bed & Breakfast was open for 6 years. Now the Hawley House is in an 1890's Victorian built as two town homes that has been opened into one home and is a local historical landmark. We will be moving into the home in 2011 from across the street. We have 3 dogs Miko (12), Snoopy (10) & Sophie (8).
