Staycation

Staycation
CNN talked about Staycations June 12, 2008 as an alternative to pricey, stressful travel. Some vacationers are choosing to stay home. Staycationers use time off to enjoy homelife or hometown. Travel alternative eliminates stress, can refresh. The experts say the keys to fun is to plan and keep off email.
We spend our time and money to make our homes more like a spa, but we don't take the time to enjoy what we have. Use a staycation to enjoy what your home offers.
Plan your staycation.
What are you going to do each day and where will you go?
Look to see what is available in your town and then 1 to 2 hours from your home. These activities will make good day trips.
Plan each trip, get up, get out and enjoy your staycation.
You don't have to hassle with airlines and losing all the time to travel. You will be more refreshed and ready to go back to work after your staycation.
Staycation Tips
Enjoy your "staycation" by becoming a tourist inside or near your own home.
Pauline Frommer of Pauline Frommer's Travel Guides advises:
Stay in a nearby hotel.
Tell them you're a local, and they may give you a discount so that you'll recommend them to visiting friends or relatives.
Consult guidebooks such as Frommers.com, Fodors.com and LonelyPlanet.com to find nearby hot spots.
Check out Web sites like Chowhound.com or Roadfood.com to find the best local eateries.
Join your local museum to get on lists to identify when the best cultural opportunities are happening.
