Stauffer's Cafe & Pie Shoppe

The Stauffer's Cafe & Pie Shoppe is located at 5602 South 48th Street. It is 1 block south of 48th and Hyway2 in a strip mall on the east side. There is plenty of parking in front of the cafe. They are open for breakfast, lunch and supper closing at 8PM. I think they close at 2PM on Saturday and closed on Sunday.
We went on a Wednesday morning for John's birthday. We had not been there before, so this was new to us but we had read good reviews about the cafe. When we went in, there was a sign of their morning special and another sign to seat yourself. In looking around, there was a small meeting room occupied by people in a meeting, then the area we walked into had booths with single stool seating at a counter. There was one booth open, so we took it. To the right of the entrance, there was a large dining room with tables and chairs. Later people came in and sat in there when all booths were full.
We ordered the special with was on the menu for about $7 and on the special board for $5 or $6. It was chicken fried steak, 2 eggs, 2 toast and home frys. The potatoes were fried crisp and very good. The steak was breaded and deep fried with a little gravy over the top. Eggs were cooked to order. Toast offered was white or wheat. The jelly was single serving kraft on the table and whipped butter was also on the table.
We also ordered a cinnamon roll for $1.95. It was fresh baked on a baking sheet about the size of a 6" plate, with brown sugar & powder sugar frosting poured over the warm roll. It was good, but I would like to have alot more cinnamon. They also offer a pecan roll, but I never saw what it looked like.
We looked at the pies. There were alot of varieties and they all looked homemade. Price for a whole pie was $11, but didn't see the cost of one slice on the breakfast menu.
This looks like a neighborhood cafe with alot of regualar patrons. We will probably go back, but maybe for pie and coffee sometime.
Location is in the south part of town so is not close to the Hawley Bed & Breakfast, but well worth driving to go there. We don't have anything like this near the bed and breakfast.
We will go back and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
