Front Yard Landscaping

I have some flowers I can cut for the B&B but also wanted to have flowers around the B&B outside and for cutting.
I wanted to put a strip of flowers, mainly perennials across the front of the house about 3 feet wide, and plant 3 old fashioned white spirea on the south to help block the view of the sidewalk to the apartment building south of us. The bids were $1800 to $3500. Very unreasonable for what needed done. So we decided it was something we could do ourselves.
John rototilled the strip.
I dug dark purple iris from our other house. We paid the 3 oldest grandkids (10, 8, 6) to plant the iris accross the front of the strip. I purchased perenials and they planted those too. Later I purchased 3 rose bushes which 2 were planted in the strip and a climber was planted at the end of the porch. Someone gave me several bags of iris, don't know the colors, but we put them in among the flowers.
John suggested we take out the spirea next to the house and transplant it. John dug it out with a little help from me and we split it in 3 parts, cut the top to about 6 inches and planted those instead of buying new bushes.
Our neighbor Tim has a beautiful red bud tree. We do get a few volunteers growing in our yard, so we transplanted 2 of those. The big one might not survive, but it would have gotten driven over so it had to be moved.
The latest thing we did was buy 2 korean lilac and put at each corner of the porch in the strip for flowers.
We also put a clematis vine at the other end of the porch.
We have kept everything watered and this spring I want to do some mulching especially around the trees. Hope everything comes up well in the spring.
2 years ago my cousin gave me a bucket full of rhubarb roots, so planted a row behind the house. The first year they grew well, so this year, I plan to start using it in the B&B and for our own use.
